Let me tell you a story. There is a man, John Mackey, who is the founder
of Whole Foods Market Inc.. He doesn’t think much of the proposed
ObamaCare plan for a government run national health care system. The
Wall Street Journal published an OpEd piece by Mackey on August 11th.
You should read it. Mackey is a wealthy entrepreneur, but he is also a
generous person who cares. Check out the facts for yourself. Talk to the
people who work for him. Mackey makes several suggestions in his article
that make a great deal of common sense…… but some don’t think so.
Now there is a movement to boycott Whole Foods Markets by the folks from the crowd who think government run health care is just dandy and who
believe in the money fairy. Personally, I am not for much of government
run anything except for certain regulations concerning our financial
system, the protection of our natural environment, food safety, and
medicine safety. Oh, and, yes, for our national defense and disaster
response. Beyond that, it seems pretty clear that private enterprise
mostly does things best.
As far as a national health care system is concerned, you only have to
listen to the horror stories from the countries that have tried this and
have failed. If this is such a good idea, at least let’s see incremental
steps to prove that it is. We need to have Social Security, Medicare,
and Medicaid fixed first. Those are enough of a bite to be able to tell
whether or not the Democrats are truthful and right or are really
blowing smoke or just crafting plans for their own gain rather that for
the common good.
I grant you that the eight years under the Bush administration was a
disaster. We have yet to have even 8 months under Mr. Obama and this is
proving to be much, much worse. It is time to slow down, step back,
contemplate a bit, and move forward in incremental steps on many
issues…… not try to take over the country in one big gulp. Frankly, the
2010 election cannot come soon enough. I hope enough people get fed up
with what is going on fast enough to at least take away the absolute
power of the Democrats quickly.
